Give Attention to The Word

I walked into the auditorium to find everyone deep in worship. I was running unavoidably late for the concert due to some traffic delay, so as soon as I arrived I immediately “keyed” into the corporate worship atmosphere-I do love to worship so this was really my “thing”.

No sooner had I joined than the worship session wound to a close and the compere for the event took the stage and asked everyone to kindly take their seats. I sat down and quickly made a mental note to “keep it together” as I really wanted to get the best out of the concert.

The compere introduced the next act- a rap group and I sat back in expectation- Sad to say I almost couldn’t hold back my disappointment as my mood quickly changed from excited to upset.  Well, the crowd seemed to enjoy it, spurring the rapper on… but for me, there was one big problem… great rhythm, nice melody, and flow but I just couldn’t hear what they were saying.

Now you’re probably trying to figure out what my problem was…. Simple! The single most important difference between a Christian and a secular artist is that a Christian artist is a minister (a dispenser) of the word of God through music, so how could this qualify as a ministration when the word wasn’t getting dispensed? The artists might as well have been singing a nursery rhyme.

Effective communication is key to the dispensing of the word we preach and the gospel we teach. The bible says “how shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

As the preacher in this context, it is your responsibility as a minister to know the word for yourself so as to be able to communicate the same to your hearers and ensure they can hear your words so that they may be saved. Remember, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word. As you serve the word of God in music, your hearers are converted- music is great and can bring great merriness to the soul but it is the entrance of the word that provides the true light and creates joy as a product of the recreated human spirit.

Taking a cue from Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:4  which says “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, I love to say “and my singing and ministering was not with the enticing rhythm of the drum and soulful melody of music but in a demonstration of the Spirit and power”!

We are word-based singers and must unashamedly dispense the gospel with the word as our foundation and clarity of speech as an aid. Never make the mistake of substituting the clarity of the word for the sake of artistry. This is how to be a vessel unto honour, fruitful, productive, and fit for the master’s use.

Remember, if there are questions about gospel music you have been meaning to ask… or maybe you just want some clarification on any of my posts, hit me up at breathings@pozytv.com. I will certainly try to answer, as long as the answer can be found on this side of God’s world… otherwise, we will just have to wait till we get to heaven😊😊😊😊😊😊

Esther Benyeogo Wins The Voice Nigeria Season 3

Unapologetic Christian singer Esther Benyeogo has won the 3rd edition of The Voice Nigeria. Esther’s win marks the first time in the history of Nigerian singing competitions that an unapologetic Christian would emerge as winner.

Throughout her journey Esther was known for not shying away from the fact she loves God, a fact that was clear in her constant use of the name of Jesus in her performances. Her astounding performances and stage presence left audiences eyes wide open, gasping heartbeats and trembling feet in all the 18 weeks she spent in the competition with culminated in her walking away with the star prize of Ten million Naira, a recording deal from Universal music group and an SUV.

Coach Darey who was her guide throughout the entire season shared,  “Esther has consistently shown throughout the season that she is indeed phenomenal. Her passion, dedication and commitment to improvement were clear signs that she had her eye on the prize and I cannot be more pleased by the outcome. Certainly, all the talents this season devoted themselves to every one of their performances, but evidently, Esther stood out and I am so proud to have been her coach. It is my great pleasure to congratulate Esther on this big win! Now, it is time for us to celebrate.”

HIS STRENGTH FOR YOUR “WEAKNESS”

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness… (2 Corinthians 12:9).

As you serve the Lord, you should know that He never allows you to burn out or wear out. He renews your strength. Isaiah 40:30-31 puts it beautifully; it says, “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Hallelujah!

The Hebrew word translated “renew” above literally means “to bring back to life.” The picture is of an axed tree that’s expected to die but suddenly revives. It’s a kind of transformation where “death” is replaced with a new life; weakness is replaced with strength. One of its synonyms is “substitute” or “exchange.” Thus, your weakness is exchanged for His strength.

No wonder Paul said in Colossians 1:29, “Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.” So, it’s about His divine strength at work in you.

Also, in 2 Corinthians 3:5-6, he said our competence (Greek: Hikanotes)—the ability with which we function as able ministers of the Gospel—is divine and not human: “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament….”

This is God’s plan; He gives power and strength to the weak (Isaiah 40:29). With Him, you never run out of might and inspiration. It brings to mind the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 4:16: “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”

As a labourer with the Lord, working for and together with Him, there’s a renewal of your strength. You’re constantly refreshed and rejuvenated by the Spirit of God to be afire, inspired and full of joy as you serve Him. Be conscious of this.

CONFESSION

Blessed be God! I’m constantly refreshed and rejuvenated by the Spirit of God; inspired and full of joy to serve the Lord. I’m strong in the grace of Jesus Christ, competent and ready for every good work. He is the strength of my life. Hallelujah!

The Power Of The Divine Life – Liza C

If you compare yourself to other people you will think you are a failure or you will think proudly that they are failures.
Compare yourself to the purpose, God’s plan, God’s expectation, what does He want?

Ask yourself what God wants as you live for Him, in your relationships with other people.
It’s not good if you lived all your life doing what you wanted to do. Does God want it? It doesn’t matter who thinks you are successful.

Human beings look at you and compare you with other people. The question is not what they think. It’s about what God wants.
You can achieve everything your mind ever wanted. You can actually be fulfilled doing the wrong thing. Fulfillment is just about a desire until you discover that it is not about your desires.

Always want to know what’s on His mind. It’s useless to invest your life in what He doesn’t want. Remember Cain. Remember David when He bought a new cart for God but He killed a man for touching the ark. Moses didn’t know it wasn’t about water and drink. He didn’t know what God wanted. He never asked God what He wanted.

I don’t want to do the best things and find out it wasnt what God wanted. Don’t invest your life in what you want.

Remember king Saul who selected the best things not for himself but for sacrifice to God but God was not interested in those best things.

1 Samuel 15:22 KJV
And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord ? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Dont let your desires destroy you. They might not destroy you in this earth, but you are destroyed when at the end of everything you dont hear those words, ‘Well done thou good and faithful servant’ and that you served you own purpose.

Matthew 6:33
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Why do you want to serve God with that He didnt give you?
Why do you want to give Him that He didnt give you?

Do you have the conviction of salvation in your heart? What are you in pursuit of? What are you struggling to be? What are you desiring to be? Is it what He wants or what you want?

You were created by the word of God and only the word of God can build your life. There is a time others can help you with their faith and there comes a time others can’t.

John 6:63 KJV
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

No word from God is empty of power. Nothing that proceeds from God is empty of power.

If you dont see it, you lose it.
